IntroducingThe Nodus Sector II Field Titanium Goes 'Tropical'

Not going to lie, that invisible strap goes kind of hard.

What We Know

The Los Angeles-based Nodus brand is back with another take on their Sector II Field watch in grade two titanium. Suppose the name field watch wasn't enough of a clue as to the rugged design. In that case, they've now covered the case in a deep olive green Ceracote and introduced a new Disruptive Pattern Material (DPM) camouflage strap with a Hybrid TecTuff coating over the rubber base. This is a tool watch, if I've ever seen one, and it's affordable as well.

Nodus Sector II

Measuring a compact 38mm by 11.7mm, the watch houses a workhorse Seiko TMI NH-38 movement, that Nodus has taken the extra step of regulating to +/- 10 seconds a day. The movement has around 41 hours of power reserve and runs at 21,600vph, offering hours, minutes, and seconds.

The arrow hand is not a GMT, but rather the central running seconds. The handset and dial indices feature Super-LumiNova BGW9 Grade A lume. The Grade 2 Titanium case has nice facets along the lugs, but the olive Ceracote treatment gives the entire watch a matte finish (except the crown and caseback, which are left raw).

If you're looking for a cool, tough-looking, hard-wearing field watch, this Nodus is a good option. But you have to be quick, as it's limited to 75 pieces and goes on sale today. The price is $550.

What We Think
Nodus Sector II Tropical

There's only so much you can do to put a spin on a field watch. By their very definition, they're supposed to be super stripped-down tools with no frills. Nodus has done a good job here of putting a few little spins on their Sector II. The dial dimensionality looks great, as does the box crystal, all while retaining a pretty compact size. I like the way that the brown and green of the dial and hands blend seamlessly with the Ceracote case. It's fun to see Ceracote being used more often lately, and this is one of the most affordable watches I can remember that featured the tough-wearing surface treatment.
