IntroducingTimex and Todd Snyder Team Up for A New 'Dylan' Limited Edition In Two Colors

What We Know

We love a good Todd Snyder collab, and there have been a few of them lately. Todd Snyder, a former menswear designer at Gap and J.Crew, has turned his attention to leading his own eponymous menswear label. He is a fan of watches, and I'm a fan of many of the brand's offerings. But most of their collaborations sell out quickly. That's why I'm surprised I have the chance to write about their most recent collaboration with Timex, a few days after its launch—extra surprised, in fact, because the new Timex x Todd Snyder "Dylan" looks great.

The watch is based around Timex's Marlin platform, measuring 34mm and around 10mm thick, with an 18mm lug width. That's an unsurprising designer who isn't afraid to play with classic sizing, even if it might be a bit small for a modern audience. But speaking of classics, it's also named after one of Snyder's most emblematic (and his own personal favorite) items from the brand: the Dylan suede trucker jacket. Another classic touch is an acrylic crystal, not sapphire, just like the 1960s Marlins would have had.

That Dylan callback is why you'll see two different colors, matched to the olive green and black Dylan jackets you can pick up on Todd Snyder's website (or in stores). That means you get a gold-toned version with gold-toned Breguet-style numerals and on an olive dial with an olive leather strap to match one jacket, while the black dial has silver numerals and a standard steel case, in case you want something more versatile. Both come with bold, dauphine hands in colors matching the case.

When I spoke with Todd Snyder at our UBS House of Craft event last year, I told him it was a chance to confront the man who was responsible for my shrinking closet space and shrinking watch budget. Luckily, the Timex x Todd Snyder 'Dylan' is less expensive than the jacket, at $149.

What We Think

Okay, it's clear that I'm a fan of Todd Snyder. But when the press release hit my inbox, I didn't even notice it was a collaboration; I just thought it was pretty cool. Funny enough, I have one of the olive Dylan jackets (and wore it during our talk last year), but have had the black Dylan jacket on my wish list for nearly as long. But, as I said, it's a more budget-conscious thing to pick up one (or both) of these watches than another new jacket. Budget aside, I do think they're very attractive, hitting the vintage sizing and inspiration right dead center.
